LAHORE: The final decision regarding the summer vacations of educational institutions in Punjab will be made after May 15.
Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has said that various speculations are currently going on regarding the vacations; however, the actual announcement will come out after mid-May.
He said that the provincial government is considering reducing the summer vacations by 15 to 20 days this year to make up for the educational loss.
Under the policy, a proposal to increase the number of teaching days in the academic year from 180 to 190 is also under consideration.
According to the Education Minister, this decision aims to ensure the timely completion of the syllabus so that the educational standard of students can be improved.
He also said that a proposal to reduce the winter vacations by 5 to 6 days is also being considered.
Rana Sikandar Hayat clarified that the final vacation schedule will be issued after the approval of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
On the other hand, the Meteorological Department has issued an alert of a severe heat wave in Punjab.
According to experts, if there is an unusual increase in temperatures, the government may have to consider granting early holidays in view of the health of students.
