Disqualification case: PHC suspends ECP proceedings against Gandapur

PESHAWAR: On Thursday, the Peshawar High Court decided that the ECP was not permitted to pursue legal action against KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.

In response to Chief Minister Gandapur’s petition challenging the election commission’s disqualification notice, the high court delivered a written ruling.

The court judgment stated, “The Supreme Court has interpreted clause 62-1(f) in the Nawaz Sharif case.” The order stated,

“After the election tribunal established, the election commission has not been empowered to proceed,” the order read.

The court judgment states that the election commission is not authorized to take any action against the petitioner.

Preliminary notice is been given to the parties. The order said that the election commission’s disqualification notice action will be put on hold.

Ali Amin Gandapur’s ECP disqualification proceedings were suspended yesterday by the Peshawar High Court.

The parties were served notifications by the court, and they were called to respond. The petition was considered by a high court bench consisting of Justices Waqar Ahmed and Ijaz Anwar.
