ISLAMABAD: PTI leader Omar Ayub has been appointed as the opposition leader in the National Assembly, NA Secretariat issued a notification in this regard.
Speaker of the National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq in a notification declared MNA Omar Ayub as the opposition leader in the Lower House of the Parliament on Tuesday.

Earlier, opposition members Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Umar Ayub, and Malik Muhammad Aamir Dogar met with the Speaker National Assembly. Both sides discussed the nomination of the leader of the opposition in the meeting.
The name of Omar Ayub was proposed by the majority of the opposition. The time for submission of papers for the nomination of the Leader of the Opposition was yesterday, April 1, till 6 pm. No other candidate’s papers have been received by the stipulated time.
“In pursuance of rule 39 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007, Honourable Speaker has been pleased to declare Mr. Omer Ayub Khan, MNA as Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly with effect from April 02, 2024,” the notification reads.
The appointment of the Leader of the Opposition and the Parliamentary Leader in the National Assembly was delayed due to disagreements within the opposition party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
