Sindh Polio campaign to begin from Monday

KARACHI: In Sindh, a thorough seven-day anti-polio campaign is set to begin on Monday with the goal of immunizing over 10.6 million children in the province.

The provincial polio eradication task group met in Karachi to carefully examine and complete the operational and logistical plans for the impending campaign.

On January 21, sewage samples taken from the Lasbela district of Balochistan were found to contain the concerning poliovirus, according to Ministry of Health sources. Particularly, several samples tested positive for Type-1 Wild Poliovirus (WPV1), indicating a worrying virus outbreak.

Furthermore, the virus isolated from these samples underwent genetic research, which demonstrated a strong connection to Gadap Karachi and the global interconnection of polio transmission. This emphasizes how crucial it is to launch coordinated attacks to combat the illness.

The Ministry of Health’s recent findings, which revealed the presence of poliovirus in environmental samples taken from nine regions around the country just last month, only serve to highlight how serious the issue is. Given how widely distributed the virus is, it is imperative that strong immunization efforts and ongoing watchfulness be implemented in order to effectively stop its spread.
