WATCH: Suo motu notice hearing of IHC judges’ letter begins in Supreme Court

ISLAMABAD: A seven-member Supreme Court bench has begun suo motu proceedings in response to a complaint from Islamabad High Court judges accusing intelligence agencies of interfering.

Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa is presiding over the bench, which also includes Justice Jamal Mandokhail, Justice Yahya Afridi, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Athar Minallah, Justice Musarrat Hilali, and Justice Naeem Afghan.

Earlier, former Chief Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jilani declined to lead a government-appointed judicial commission, leading to the bench’s formation on Monday.

Six judges of the Islamabad High Court have demanded that a judicial convention be summoned over the alleged interference of intelligence agencies in the judiciary.

The chief justice did, however, meet with the prime minister after a full court reference in the SC and requested the formation of a judicial panel in its place.
