An Iraqi militia claims drone attacks on US military installations in Kuwait, Jordan and Syria, marking a widening of operations amid heightened tensions across the Middle East.
On Sunday, an armed faction known as Saraya Awliya al-Dam, linked to Iran-aligned groups, released video footage showing drones striking strategic sites. These reportedly included the US-run Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait, Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan, and a US position in Qasrak, Syria.
The group said the strikes were deliberate and part of broader resistance efforts, signalling that regional US and allied military interests are under threat. It did not provide independent verification from neutral observers.
Officials from the faction issued a warning that all American facilities and energy infrastructure in the region had “no red lines and would be legitimate targets.” Their statement follows public threats by US leadership aimed at Iran if tensions over the Strait of Hormuz are not resolved.
The claimed attacks come amid a wider escalation of conflict involving Iran, the United States, and allied forces. On April 6, 2026, Iran announced a drone strike targeting US forces on Kuwait’s Bubiyan Island, injuring civilians when debris fell in residential areas.
The United States has also reported militia-linked assaults on other facilities in Iraq. Recent days have seen attacks on US diplomatic posts in Baghdad, which Washington has condemned and urged Baghdad to prevent.
Meanwhile, ongoing clashes in the region have caused significant military and economic strain. Iranian air defence forces reportedly engaged US aircraft, and disruptions to Iraq’s oil exports have deepened due to regional instability.
Analysts warn that if the cycle of regional strikes continues without diplomatic progress, further escalation is likely, with impacts extending beyond the immediate theatre of conflict.
