Afghan Consul General sparks controversy for disrespecting Pakistan’s national anthem [Video]

PESHAWAR: Afghan Consul General Mohibullah Shakir has come under investigation for breaching diplomatic protocol by not standing for Pakistan’s national anthem during a formal ceremony in Peshawar.

This incident took place at the Rahmatul-Lil-Alameen ﷺ Conference, where the audience stood respectfully as soon as the national anthem was played. Despite this, Consul General Shakir and his delegation remained seated, causing concern among the audience.

According to official sources, the Afghan diplomat’s failure to stand for the national anthem is being seen as a breach of diplomatic etiquette. “Diplomatic norms require foreign ambassadors to abide by the host country’s customs and laws, including respecting national symbols,” an official noted.
