CM Maryam Nawaz sets new minimum wage at 37,000 rupees in Punjab: Details inside

LAHORE: The Punjab government has issued a notification to raise the minimum monthly wage of workers and laborers to Rs 37,000, here on Tuesday.

As per the details, this decision has been taken on the instructions of Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

The minimum wage of unskilled workers has been increased from 32 thousand rupees to 37 thousand rupees per month. CM Maryam Nawaz urged to ensure provision of minimum wage to all daily wage and unskilled workers.

The government’s notification has specifically clarified that the daily wages for an 8-hour working day will be treated as Rs. 1,423.07.

Maryam Nawaz said that the Punjab government has issued this notification according to the current budget in which the minimum wage has been fixed at 37 thousand rupees. “It is our responsibility to protect the rights of every worker in the province,” she asserted.

The Chief Minister also directed to take stakeholders into confidence immediately for the implementation of minimum wages.

She highlighted that the laborers suffer when they are not getting their full wages, and it is unfortunate that labor laws are not being applied to domestic workers. She stressed the importance of strict implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and guidelines at the workplace.
