The Commissioner also directed the Assistant Commissioners to visit all the markets and inform the people about the ban on the use of plastic bags.
All possible efforts would be made to spread awareness about the ban.
Engineer Aamir Khattak had also directed the relevant authorities to accelerate an ongoing awareness campaign against the use of plastic bags, the spokesman said.
The Commissioner instructed the relevant officers to conduct an awareness campaign against plastic bags so that the citizens realizing its harmful effects abandon the use of plastic bags themselves.
“The use of plastic is dangerous for human health,” he said.
“Along with preventing everything that causes pollution, awareness should be created among people regarding green energy preservation,” he added.
The Commissioner had directed the relevant authorities to encourage roof guarding among the citizens.
“To reduce the severity of the increasing effects of the current global warming, the importance of the plantation has increased more than ever,” he added.
From June 5, hotels, restaurants, and other food establishments will be prohibited from serving food in plastic bags. Instead, cotton bags or other environmentally friendly alternatives will be promoted.
Themed ‘Plastic vs. Earth’, this year’s Earth Day campaign sought to tackle plastic pollution. In alignment with the Punjab government regulations, a comprehensive ban was imposed earlier this year on the sale of plastic bags less than 75 microns and many other plastic items, including disposables and multi-layer packaging plastic products listed in Schedules 1 and 2 of the Punjab Single-Use Plastic Products Regulation 2023.
