Complete ban to be imposed on plastic bags in Punjab from June 6

Punjab imposes ban on thin plastic bags to protect environment

Lahore: A complete ban will be imposed on the use of all types of plastic bags including shopping and polythene bags acrosss Punjab from June 6.

Speaking on the floor of the Punjab Assembly today, Provincial Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafiq said that this decision has been taken on the instructions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and a comprehensive cleaning plan will be started in the next four months.

The minister announced that landfill sites are being set up in Punjab to dump waste and more than 2000 water supply schemes have been closed due to pollution.

According to Zeeshan Rafiq, the sanitation system will be implemented at the tehsil level, garbage will be collected from every house.

He said the streets would be cleaned daily, and the new system would create about 100,000 new jobs.
