Humaira Asghar case: Probe widened to ascertain cause of death

Actress Humaira Asghar's final medico-legal reports raises new suspicions

KARACHI: Authorities investigating the mysterious death of Pakistani actress and model Humaira Asghar Ali have decided to expand their investigation to find out whether it was a natural death, an accident, suicide or murder.

According to sources in the investigation team, Humaira Asghar, whose almost decomposed body was found in her apartment in Karachi’s Defense Housing Authority (DHA), had been facing severe financial crisis for the past few months.

They added that Humaira Asghar contacted 10 people, including her brother Salman, on October 7, 2024 and sent a “Hello, I want to talk to you” text on WhatsApp but to no avail.

Sources indicated that she had also reached out to close contacts for financial assistance, but her requests were not responded to.

The special investigation team decided to question 63 people, of whom their statements have been recorded. The team is analyzing digital and forensic evidence, including data from Humaira Asghar’s mobile phone, tablet and laptop, and passwords in her personal diary.

No drugs were found, and her hands were reportedly tied to her chest. According to her gym trainer, Humaira maintained a rigorous routine, exercising for three hours daily.

Discovery of the body

Humaira’s body was found on July 8, 2025, when Gizri police, accompanied by court bailiffs, raided her fourth-floor rented apartment in DHA’s Ittehad Commercial Area to enforce an eviction order.

The landlord had initiated legal action for non-payment of rent since April 2024. Neighbors reported a foul odor, but an adjacent vacant apartment, vacant until February 2025, may have delayed the discovery.

The closed main and balcony doors indicated that Humaira was alone at the time of her death.
