BAHAWALPUR: In a tragic incident of domestic violence, Ishrat Jabeen, a woman from Baghdadul Jadid, succumbed to knife wounds inflicted by her husband, Bilal, after a quarrel about whether to attend a marriage ceremony or not.
The deceased woman demanded new clothes to attend the wedding ceremony, and Bilal refused to purchase clothes for her, beginning a physical confrontation. Ishrat was the mother of six children. Although the assailant fled, efforts were made by the police to collect evidence and have the body shifted to Bahawal Victoria Hospital for postmortem.
Another woman was killed in Hasilpur by her husband, Nadeem Akhtar, due to a domestic quarrel. The heated argument progressed to an attack by Nadeem, whereupon he struck his wife on the neck with a sharp knife and strangled her to death.
The police are investigating both cases. These recent tragic incidents reflect the shocking extent of domestic violence in Pakistan, creating an urgent need for assistance and intervention for the victims.
