KARACHI: The trend of police officers being caught on video taking free items continues, with a new clip showing an officer taking a bottle of fresh drink during Ramadan going viral on social media.
Earlier, a video surfaced showing a Shaheen Noor Jahan police officer taking melon from a fruit vendor without paying. Following this, the officer of Madadgar 15 who was caught drinking alcohol was suspended.
According to a Karachi Police spokesperson, SSP Madadgar 15 Imran Shaukat took notice of the viral video, which showed a sub-inspector taking a bottle without paying from a mart within the limits of Site B police station.
SSP Madadgar 15 suspended Sub-inspector Javed with immediate effect and ordered an internal inquiry.
The video shows the masked officer approaching the counter, requesting a bottle of sherbet (a traditional drink) and removing his mask when asked to pay. He then takes the bottle and leaves without paying.
A few days ago, another viral video showed a police officer from Shaheen Noor Jahan police station in the Central District taking melon from a street vendor near Qalandaria Chowk. The officer, identified as Zafar, argued with the vendor and threatened him.
