ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Sparco) has revealed that the year’s first supermoon will be visible throughout the country on October 7, 2025. The phenomenon will cause the moon to look larger and brighter than normal, providing a glorious celestial view for stargazers.
A Sparco spokesperson has said the supermoon is expected to emerge from the eastern horizon about an hour after sundown at 8:47 PM local time. It will be seen all night and set in the west just before morning, providing plenty of time for stargazers to see it.
Astronomical specialists have verified that the October supermoon will be about 6.6 per cent bigger and 13 per cent brighter than the normal moon. The occurrence is bound to be especially dramatic for observers in open areas where the sky remains free of obstructions.
This is an unprecedented moment for all Pakistanis to see the moon full of its splendor,” said the spokesperson, urging people to go out and take in the rare sight.
Sparco also pointed out that 2025 will have a total of three supermoons, with the second one falling on November 5 and the third one on December 5. Analysts predict that the November supermoon will be the brightest of the year.
A supermoon happens when the moon comes closest to Earth in its orbit, making it look strangely large and bright. The phenomenon gives sky enthusiasts a rare opportunity to witness a magical view of our natural satellite.
In another statement, the Director General of Sparco added that the successful launch of the satellite, coinciding with the soon-to-be supermoon, is a demonstration of Pakistan’s expanding capabilities in space exploration.
“Such events are not only a witness to our success in space technology but also prove to be a reminder of the universe’s wonders,” he further added.
