Double Decker bus service launched from Lahore to boost tourism

LAHORE: The government of Punjab initiated a weekend double-decker bus service between Lahore and Sheikhupura to enhance tourism and exhibit the historic landmarks of the district, officials added.

In collaboration with the Punjab Tourism and Archaeology Department, the service will run on Saturdays and Sundays. Officials have fixed Rs. 1,200 per person as the fare for the round-trip excursions connecting travelers from the provincial capital to the cultural spots of Sheikhupura.

During the first run, tourists visited the shrine of the Punjabi poet Waris Shah and the adjacent Hiran Minar. Tourists boated and cycled at Hiran Minar, and authorities also arranged a traditional Heer recitation for the visitors during the activities of day.

Local residents and shop owners hailed the initiative as a historic move in bringing back Sheikhupura’s heritage and broadening its appeal to tourists from Lahore and surrounding districts. The double-decker service has already created renewed interest among weekend travelers and families, organisers added.

Deputy Commissioner Shahid Imran Marth stated that the government wants to build Sheikhupura as a hub of regional tourism. Additional Secretary Tourism Sadaf Zafar stated that the initiative is looking to boost the local economy and highlight the historic heritage of the district through sustainable tourism.
