Free electric bikes announced for THSES students

KARACHI: The Mayor of Karachi, Murtaza Wahab, has announced that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) would set up charging stations for electric bikes throughout the city, marking an environmentally friendly step toward green urban transport.

Addressing the press, Wahab stated that a private firm has joined hands with KMC to assist in bringing the project into action, which will offer workers electric bicycles while saving fuel costs and carbon emissions.

In the initial phase, KMC has purchased 20 electric bicycles. Although the market price of each vehicle is approximately Rs. 240,000, the corporation bought them for Rs. 215,000 on a negotiated basis.

The mayor added that the first batch will be distributed to dispatch riders, whereas women staff will be given priority in the second phase.

To back the move, KMC has already set up its first charging station at the headquarters of the corporation. Additional stations will be installed across Karachi, all of which will be monitored via a mobile app to ensure transparency and efficiency.
