KARACHI: In a recent development, a severe disruption in gas supply has affected various areas of Quetta and its surrounding localities, as the temperature plummeted to a chilling -6°C.
The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) indicated that the extremely cold weather caused a major transpiration line on an 18-inch diameter gas pipeline to freeze, cutting gas supply to several areas.
The affected areas include Nawan Killi and its adjacent localities, Pishin, Kuchlak, Bostan, and Ziarat. According to the SSGC spokesperson, technology teams have been working continuously since 6 AM to restore gas supply and fix the frozen pipeline.
Meanwhile, most places in the country are expected to experience only very cold and dry conditions for the next 24 hours. The mountainous areas will likely be confronted with moderately cold partly to mostly cloudy conditions during this period.
Additionally, Northeast/South Punjab and Upper Sindh may face patches of shallow to moderate fog during the morning.
The adverse weather conditions that have caused this black-out are predominantly due to the dominance of continental air over most parts of the country coupled with a weak westerly wave moving across the northern areas.
The last 24 hours would, indeed, have witnessed the maintenance of cold, dry weather across most provinces with very cold and partly cloudy conditions prevalent in the hilly parts.
