Gen Asim Munir holds key global security talks at Munich Conference

ISLAMABAD: Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir paid a 3-day visit to Germany, held important meetings with the US Secretary of State and other important figures on the occasion of the Munich Security Conference on global and regional security issues.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defense Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir paid a three-day visit to Germany from February 12 to 14, where he held important meetings with several international figures and senior officials on the occasion of the 62nd Munich Security Conference.

During the visit, Field Marshal Asim Munir met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, in which matters of mutual interest, global and regional security situation and counter-terrorism cooperation were discussed in detail.

In connection with his meetings with German officials, he also met Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrant, German Chancellor’s Advisor on Foreign and Security Affairs Gunter Soeter and Chief of Defense of the German Armed Forces General Carsten Breuer.

These meetings emphasized the importance of bilateral and multilateral dialogue for the promotion of contemporary security challenges, bilateral defense cooperation, and global peace and stability.

Field Marshal Asim Munir also met with Admiral Renato Rodríguez de Aguiar Ferreira, Chief of the Joint Staff of the Brazilian Armed Forces, in which they discussed the possibilities of bilateral military cooperation.

In addition, General Rudolf Heckel, Commander of the Lebanese Armed Forces, also met him, in which the global and regional security situation and measures to further strengthen defense cooperation were discussed.

This visit of the Field Marshal is being described as a reflection of Pakistan’s promotion of global defense and diplomatic relations and Pakistan’s positive role for international peace and security.
