Govt announces Pink Taxi scheme for women, Eligibility criteria inside

KARACHI: The Sindh government will introduce a new “Pink Taxi” service for women soon, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari announced on Thursday.

Addressing a ceremony in Karachi where free electric Pink Scooters were handed out to women, Bilawal stated the taxi program would be introduced in the near future for safer and more reliable means of transport for women commuters.

“This is just the start,” Bilawal informed attendees. “Soon, we will organize another event to launch Pink Taxis for women.” He added the step complements Sindh’s previous efforts, such as introducing electric buses and the Pink Bus service in Karachi, making Sindh the first province to offer women-only public transportation.

On the occasion, Bilawal handed over keys of free Pink Scooters to women and stated that the initiative was designed to curtail commuting woes for female students and employees.

He remembered that the provincial government had also initiated the Benazir Hari Card scheme earlier in the week with a view to providing economic support to small farmers hit by floods.

Bilawal emphasized that empowering women was central to Sindh’s development agenda, adding that Pakistan’s progress in any sector would not be possible without their active participation.
