Govt announces two public holidays

Govt announces two day public holiday

KARACHI: The Sindh government has announced two public holidays on the occasion of Ashura.

According to a notification issued by the Chief Secretary Sindh, the province will observe public holidays on 9th and 10th Muharram, corresponding to 5th and 6th July 2025.

All government and private educational institutions and offices will remain closed on these days. However, government and administrative departments assigned for processions will continue to function as usual, and essential services staff will not be covered under the holiday notification.

It should be noted that Ashura will be celebrated with religious fervor across Pakistan on 6th July and the federal government had already declared 9th and 10th Muharram as public holidays across the country.

Special security arrangements have been made in all provinces, including the imposition of Section 144, to maintain law and order during Muharram.

Pillion riding will also be banned in Sindh on 9th and 10th Muharram.
