Govt calls emergency presser as petrol, diesel prices set to surge

ISLAMABAD: The government has summoned an emergency press conference to announce the petrol prices across the country, according to sources.

The petrol prices may witness an increase of Rs 100 per litre, while the diesel prices will be increased by Rs 200.

According to sources, the government may introduce a subsidy of up to 20 litres of petrol per month, primarily aimed at motorcycle users to ease the burden of rising fuel costs. In addition, a subsidy on petrol and diesel for agricultural machinery is also under consideration to support the farming sector.

The decisions regarding both the price hike and subsidy measures were finalized during the meeting and are expected to be formally announced in a press conference by the finance and petroleum ministers.

The anticipated increase in fuel prices comes amid global market volatility, while the proposed subsidies are aimed at cushioning the impact on daily commuters and farmers across the country.
