ISLAMABAD: The federal government has introduced significant amendments to the Civil Servants Promotion Rules, 1973, after receiving approval from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
These changes aim to streamline the promotion process for civil servants seeking to advance to Grade 22. Under the revised rules, candidates will have only two opportunities to be considered for promotion.
If they fail to secure a promotion on both occasions, they will no longer be eligible and will retire in their current grade.
A notification regarding these amendments has been published in the Gazette of Pakistan. In a related development, a high-powered selection board has approved the promotion of 36 senior civil servants from BS-21 to BS-22.
These officers belong to the Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS), Police Service of Pakistan (PSP), and Foreign Service of Pakistan (FSP).
The board’s 29th meeting, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, recommended promotions for 19 PAS officers, eight PSP officers, and nine FSP officers.
Key attendees at the meeting included Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Minister for Establishment Ahad Khan Cheema, and secretaries of the Cabinet and Establishment divisions.
