ISLAMABAD: The federal government has announced three holidays for Eid-ul-Adha 2024 after the approval of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday.

According to the sources, official holidays will begin on Monday, June 17, which will fall on the first day of Eid, and end on Wednesday, June 19.

Earlier, the Cabinet Divison had submitted a summary to PM Shehbaz Sharif which was approved granting three-day holidays on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha.

The approved holidays will add to the already scheduled weekend off on Saturday (June 15), and Sunday (June 16), which means Pakistanis will enjoy five holidays on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha.

In another development, Pakistan Railways has also announced a 25% reduction in fares for passengers traveling during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha. The discount will apply to all classes of regular passenger trains operated by Pakistan Railways.

Earlier, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee confirmed the sighting of the Dhul-Hajj 1445 Hijri moon in Pakistan. This marks the beginning of the Islamic month of Dhul-Hajj and sets the date for Eid-ul-Adha, which will be celebrated nationwide on Monday, June 17.

As per the details, the announcement followed a meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, held in Karachi on Friday evening. Simultaneously, Zonal Ruet Committees convened in various cities, including Lahore and Peshawar, to observe the moon.
