Hasan Nawaz discharged from bankruptcy case by UK govt

LONDON: The UK Revenue and Customs(HMRC) department has discharged Hasan Nawaz Sharif’s bankruptcy case without any adverse findings. As a result, he is now permitted to rejoin the ranks of a company director and undertake business as usual.

The former Prime Ministers son, and currently the president of Pakistan Muslim League Noon PML-N, was declared bankrupt on April 29, 2025 (from the official records).

Reports confirmed that the HMRC department, and the UK tax authority, discharged Hasan, as there was no evidence of wrongdoing on Hasans part.

In the event of noncompliance, the UK tax authority could have delayed discharging Hasan. “Hasan Nawaz is now also completely released from all bankruptcy and restrictions on debts.

His bankruptcy was for 1 year only,” the local media identified unnamed sources as quoting. Hasan Nawaz was declared a deliberate tax defaulter by the UK department for refusing to pay nearly £10 million two months ago.

He was later declared bankrupt after he was requested by HMRC to pay the taxes for the period awarded between April 5, 2015, to April 6, 2016.

Earlier, Hasan Nawaz entered into litigation against the UK tax authority, claiming that he had already paid all taxes owed for that period and that HMRC was asking for additional taxes after several years.
