IHC informed Govt declines to join Aafia Siddiqui case

Aafia Siddiqui case scheduled for October 29 hearing in larger bench

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) was told on Monday that the government not only refused to become a party in the Dr. Aafia Siddiqui case, which is currently under trial in a US court, but also did not offer assistance to the court, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Monday.

Justice Sardar Ijaz Ishaq Khan heard the petition of Aafia Siddiqui’s sister Dr. Fawzia Siddiqui.

The petitioner’s lawyer Imran Shafiq, Additional Attorney General (AAG) and other officials were present on the occasion.

The AAG told the court that the government has decided not to become a party in the case.

Justice Ishaq asked the AAG what was the reason for the government’s decision?

Without giving reasons, the AAG replied that it was the government’s decision.

The judge remarked that there are reasons for any decision. “No decision can be made without any reason,” he said, adding, “It is not possible for a person to come to court and say that he has made a decision without giving reasons.”

The court directed the AAG to inform the reasons at the next hearing and adjourned the hearing of the case till July 4.
