ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court has ordered the government to form a commission to investigate blasphemy cases.
Justice Sardar Ijaz Ishaq of the Islamabad High Court heard the petitions to form a commission to investigate blasphemy cases.
The Islamabad High Court, while accepting the petitions, ordered the government to form the commission.
The Islamabad High Court ordered the federal government to form the commission within 30 days and said that the commission formed by the federal government should complete its work within 4 months.
The Islamabad High Court ordered that the commission can approach the court if it needs more time.
Earlier, More than 100 petitioners had asked for the commission’s creation, claiming that their family members had been accused of blasphemy in instances based on social media posts, and that some of them had already been found guilty by trial courts.
There are presently appeals underway in a number of high courts against these convictions.In filing blasphemy accusations, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and some persons may have colluded, the court said, according to evidence provided during the proceedings. The commission has also been charged with looking into these claims.
