Imran Khan urges PTI to prepare for major nationwide movement: Aleema Khan

Aleema Khan warns of Imran Khan’s worsening health, eye risk

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has urged party leaders and supporters to be ready for a “major nationwide movement” aimed at removing the current coalition government, his sister Aleema Khan said on Monday.

Speaking to reporters outside Adiala Central Jail, Aleema said Khan stressed that the movement would not be limited to Islamabad but would spread across the country. However, she did not provide a specific date for its launch.

“Imran Khan shared three important messages today,” Aleema said:

  • He is not being given the basic rights that ordinary prisoners get.
  • In the past eight months, he has been allowed to speak to his children only once.
  • Jail authorities have consistently denied him access to his sisters and have stopped books being sent to him.

The 71-year-old former prime minister has been incarcerated since August 2023, facing multiple legal cases ranging from corruption to terrorism. He was removed from office in a no-confidence vote in April 2022.

Aleema also raised concerns about her brother’s health, noting that he was not being allowed to see his personal physician.

Quoting Khan, she said she expressed frustration with party members who acted opportunistically: “There is no place in PTI for those who play both sides of the wicket.” She added that she would not bow down even if she was in jail for the rest of her life.

Despite calls for mobilization, the PTI is reportedly making behind-the-scenes efforts to resume talks with the government. According to The News, PTI chairmen Barrister Gauhar and Barrister Saif are actively participating in the discussions, which were previously stalled due to rising tensions between Pakistan and India.
