NEW DELHI: The Indian government has decided to suspend the exchange of all categories of mail and parcels coming from Pakistan through air and land routes.
The move came amid a series of restrictions imposed by the Modi-led government on Pakistan, from digital censorship to a ban on goods imports, airspace ban for Pakistani aircraft, and many others. The steps were taken following the recent Pahalgam attack in Indian occupied Kashmir.
“Government of India has decided to suspend exchange of all categories of inbound mail and parcels from Pakistan through air and surface routes,” a public notice issued by the Department of Posts read.
Earlier, New Delhi banned the direct and indirect import of goods originating from or transiting via Pakistan with immediate effect.
A Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) prohibits “direct or indirect import or transit of all goods originating in or exported from Pakistan with immediate effect until further orders.”
It also banned Pakistani-flagged ships from entering Indian ports and prohibited Indian-flagged vessels from visiting ports in Pakistan.
Pakistan, on the other hand, has already announced the cancellation of trade ties and limiting diplomatic ties with India, after New Delhi blamed Pakistan for last week’s attack in Kashmir and took several measures.
However, Islamabad denied allegations and demanded a neutral investigation into the attack.
