ISLAMABAD: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) regarding the upgradation of cricket grounds and promotion of cricket in the Federal Capital, Islamabad.
The MoU signing was held during the meeting of Chairman CDA and Chief Commissioner Islamabad Muhammad Ali Randhawa, with Chief Operating Officer of the PCB Sameer Ahmed.
The meeting was attended by Member Administration CDA Board Talat Mahmood, Member Engineering Syed Nafasat Raza, Director Sports and Culture, and other senior officers of CDA.
Similarly, a Talent Hunt Program will be initiated at the Federal Capital, Islamabad, with an aim to encourage cricket amongst youth. It will provide an equal opportunity to young boys and girls.
The program will not only facilitate the transparent selection of players but also provide them with coaching and training of international standards. Under the MoU, PCB will also assist CDA in upgrading two cricket grounds in Islamabad.
Chief Operating Officer PCB, Sameer Ahmed, said that they are fully prepared to cooperate with CDA for the promotion of cricket in Islamabad. He said that these measures will not only promote cricket in the federal capital but will also bring forward the best young talent.
Chairman CDA, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, said that comprehensive measures are being taken to make the Federal Capital, Islamabad, a hub for international and national sports. He added that work is being carried out not only on cricket but the upgrading of facilities and grounds regarding other sports like hockey and football.
Chairman CDA mentioned that revenue gathered through the cricket ground and other sports grounds will be spent on the promotion of sports and improvement in sports facilities. Likewise, a women’s cricket team for Islamabad is also being formed to promote cricket among females as well.
The meeting also reiterated the commitment to intensifying joint efforts to promote cricket and healthy activities in Islamabad through cooperation.
Chairman CDA further said that the objective of these measures is to encourage sports and constructive activities amongst the youth and transform the Capital into a state-of-the-art sports hub and recreational activities.
