KARACHI: Two police officers in Karachi have been suspended following the assault of an elderly street vendor, according to a report. The incident occurred in the Saddar area when the officers allegedly beat a vendor after he did not pay a bribe to them.
The video of the incident quickly went viral on social media and received rapid police action. DIG South Asad Raza took notice of the incident, called for the immediate suspension of the officers involved, and ordered a formal inquiry.
DIG Raza met the vendor and assured him justice would be done. DIG Raza reprimanded the SHO of Saddar police station, saying strict departmental and legal action would be taken against the officers responsible. Read More: Cop suspended for refusing to pay for sherbet bottle in Karachi.
Previously, an officer was suspended for refusing to pay for a sherbet bottle in Karachi. In another case of police high-handedness, a cop forcibly grabbed a beverage bottle from a shopkeeper from the Sher Shah area of Karachi (rose sherbet).
This occurred in Sher Shah at a shop in the area of Site B police station jurisdiction, where the video showing a police sub-inspector forcibly taking the rose sherbet bottle went viral.
The shopkeeper resisted and explained he was just a salesperson, but the cop insisted and even took off his mask to reveal his face, saying, “That is not important, just tell the shop owner about me“.
The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Madadgar 15, Imran Shaukat, acted quickly on the report and suspended Sub-Inspector Javed.
