Peoples Bus Service

KARACHI: Armed robbers looted more than Rs1.15 million and mobile phones from the staff of the Karachi’s Peoples Bus Service at Gulshan-e-Hadid Stop, holding them at gunpoint in a late-night attack.

Bus driver Sher Jan told police that the robbery took place at the last stop of the bus service, where he and two other employees were resting.

Six armed men arrived in a vehicle with two staying inside while four stepped out and approached them, he said in his statement to the police. The armed men forced the crew inside a bus, where the cashier and a transport officer were seated.

“They held us at gunpoint and demanded cash,” Sher Jan told police, adding that the robbers also seized a security guard’s weapon and mobile phone before fleeing with Rs11.5 million in cash.

Police have registered a case, and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Malir assured that efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the culprits.

The first information report (FIR) provisions PPC sections 357 (assault or criminal force in attempting wrongfully to confine a person) and 395 (punishment for dacoity).

“We have gathered evidence from the scene, and a case has been registered. The suspects will be tracked down soon,” he said.
