KARACHI: In a bizarre incident, Fire erupted in the fourth floor of National Institute of Child Health (NICH) due to short circuit in Karachi ; according to reports.
Hospital authorities confirmed that initially, short-circuiting occurred on the fourth floor and further spread smoke to the fifth floor. Thankfully, the fire was contained by the swift action of the rescue teams, and the blaze was put off.
Some equipments were damaged, but there were no casualties; children undergoing treatment were moved to other wards as the incident was reported.
The incident itself is not the first of its own kind with an NICH, as earlier an infant received serious burn injuries after an incubator caught fire at the hospital. NICH Director confirmed the incident and that the incubator had caught fire inside the ICU and a newborn girl was maimed by flames.
An inquiry is being sought to establish the cause-we are told, hospital sources suspected a short circuit. It is striking that the problem-the short circuits- at NICH seems to be a recurring one, and it is paramount for some action to be taken immediately on the part of the hospital administration to achieve an end to such problems.
