KP govt requests PHC to investiagte May 9 voilence case

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) received a letter from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government requesting the formation of a judicial commission under the existing law to investigate and determine the violence that occurred on May 9.

The letter, sent by the KP Advocate General, asks the chief justice of the Peshawar high court to establish a judicial commission, inquiry,or tribunal for the transperant investigations and to appoint a judge to head the judicial comission, inquiry or tribunal examination of  the incidents of May 9.

The KP cabinet approved the formation of the commission on June 27, and the Advocate General subsequently forwarded the request to the PHC for the establishment of the judicial comission on June 29, requesting the appointment of a judge for the judicial comission.

Moreover, consultations on the request are ongoing and final decision is expected soon.

Earlier,on May 9, 2023, several protests were organized in the major cities of Pakistan by PTI in response to the arrest of its founder, Imran Khan, escalated into violence.
