Government considers nationwide smart lockdown amid petrol crisis: Reports

KHYBER: The authorities in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have imposed a 12-day smart lockdown fearing the possible monkeypox outbreak in the Pump House Ghundi area of Jamrud Khyber district, according to the notification.

The notification was issued by Khyber Deputy Commissioner Captain (retd) Bilal Shahid Rao, following a confirm case of mpox in the area.

No one will be allowed to go in and out of the Mohalla Pump House, Ghundi for 12 days, the notification reads.

Only a small number of shops will be permitted to operate. These include grocery stores, pharmacies, general stores, tandoors, and emergency services. All other businesses and activities will be halted during the lockdown.

The Jamrud assistant commissioner and the Khyber have received strict orders to ensure that the lockdown measures are fully implemented. Authorities have warned that offenders who do not follow the limitations would face legal consequences.

The government has encouraged the people to cooperate with officials and follow health rules in order to prevent monkeypox from spreading throughout the region.
