Loader rickshaws ban on major roads to ensure public safety in Lahore

Loader rickshaws ban on major roads to ensure public safety in Lahore

LAHORE: The Lahore Traffic Police have imposed a ban on loader rickshaws carrying hazardous materials on major roads, including The Mall, Jail Road, and Cantonment areas.

Chief Traffic Officer Amara Athar announced that drivers transporting dangerous goods like iron rods and steel pipes will face legal action, not just fines. This move aims to address the growing risk posed by overloaded rickshaws.

Over 11,000 drivers have already been fined for violations, but stricter rules are now being enforced. A crackdown on overloaded and unsafe vehicles will result in FIRs (First Information Reports) instead of fines.

In addition, both drivers and owners will be held accountable for exceeding load limits, with repeat offenders facing license suspension.

Special checkpoints have been set up on key roads to monitor compliance. Traffic officers will inspect vehicles for safety standards, and PSCA cameras will aid in the crackdown.

Additional personnel, including senior wardens and wardens, have been deployed at entry and exit points to ensure the campaign’s effectiveness.

This move aims to enhance road safety and reduce the risk of accidents caused by overloaded and hazardous vehicles.
