Malaysian PM calls on Army chief

RAWALPINDI: Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim recently met with Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir to discuss strategic bilateral interests, regional security, and defense cooperation, the military’s media wing said in a statement.

This meeting was part of Prime Minister Ibrahim’s three-day official visit to Pakistan, which began on Wednesday.

According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), PM Ibrahim praised the Pakistan Armed Forces for their significant role in maintaining regional peace and stability, acknowledging their professionalism and sacrifices in combating terrorism.

Moreover, the Malaysian Deto Sari in a talk with Army Chief highlighted the need for strong bilateral relations between the two countries, especially the relations of the two nations’ armies.

He also emphasized the need for enhancing bilateral ties, particularly military relations, between the two countries and extended an invitation to General Munir to visit Malaysia, ISPR added.

In response, General Munir thanked PM Ibrahim for the invitation and appreciated the successful visit, which will further strengthen the historic ties between the two nations and their militaries, the statement read.

PM Ibrahim also held crucial meetings with Pakistani leaders, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Zardari, to discuss bilateral, regional, and international issues of mutual interest.
