Massive traffic jams in Karachi as residents protest against prolong electricity outage

Karachi police unveil traffic plan ahead of New Year's Eve

KARACHI: Massive protests against prolonged power outages have brought Karachi to a standstill, causing traffic chaos and disruptions across the city.

Residents, including women and children, staged sit-in protests and blocked major roads, including Mai Kolachi Road, Shahrah-e-Faisal, and Korangi Road, to express their frustration over the lack of electricity and water.

The protests, which lasted up to 10 hours, resulted in massive traffic jams, with long queues of vehicles forming and commuters struggling to reach their destinations. Drivers of heavy vehicles abandoned their trucks, further exacerbating the congestion.

Protests were reported in several areas, including Punjab Colony, Railway Colony, and Shaheen Complex, with demonstrators blocking roads and voicing their anger over persistent power cuts.

To mitigate the chaos, traffic police diverted vehicles onto alternative routes, advising citizens to avoid affected areas. The city’s residents continue to face challenges due to the ongoing electricity outages and protests.
