ISLAMABAD: The National Highways and Motorway Police (NH&MP) on Monday issued a travel advisory for commuters using motorways over the Eid-ul-Adha holidays.
A NH&MP spokesperson said that heavy traffic is expected on motorways and highways as people head back to their cities and workplaces. To avoid accidents and delays, the NH&MP urges all commuters to take some basic safety precautions.
He said that before starting the journey, check the vehicle’s engine oil, water, tyre pressure and brakes. Ensuring that everything is in order can reduce the risk of breakdowns on the road.
While driving, use seat belts, observe the speed limit, maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front and be mindful of the lane and line, the spokesperson added, adding that drivers should be fully refreshed before a long journey and take some time to rest after two to two and a half hours of driving.
The advisory states, “Never drive while sleepy or drowsy.”
Passengers travelling in vehicles can complain about overloading and overcharging on the Motorway Police Helpline 130.

It added that by following these guidelines, all road users can contribute to a smooth and safe return journey.
