NADRA blocks over 71, 000 CNICs in five years, KP leads

ISLAMABAD: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has blocked over 71,000 Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) over the past five years.

As per the media report, a breakdown of the 71,459 CNICs blocked across Pakistan shows that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has the highest number with 25,981 CNICs, while Balochistan has 20,583 blocked.

Punjab had 13,564 cards blocked and Sindh had the least with 9,677 cards affected.

Other regions also experienced blocked CNICs, including Islamabad (1,370), Gilgit-Baltistan (228), and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (446).

The NADRA document further revealed that 44,460 CNICs were unblocked after verification while investigations into 13,618 blocked cards are still ongoing.

The government has also highlighted the importance of legal review.

The Sindh government has formally requested an amendment to the Citizenship Act in light of issues related to blocked IDs and the difficulties faced by citizens in the verification process.
