QUETTA: At least 120 ancient copies of the Holy Quran were stolen from Jabal-e-Noor ul Quran in Quetta, a well-known place for protecting the decayed and old copies of the holy book.
According to the first information report (FIR), unidentified individuals broke into the cave through a broken wall and stored 120 copies of the Quran on the night between January 21 and 22.
It further stated that the thieves broke a total of 12 showcases to take away copies of the Quran.
The case has been registered at the Barori police station against unknown persons on the complaint of Muhammad Ajmal, in-charge of Jabal-e-Noor ul Quran.
The administration said that the thieves entered the premises at night and during the load-shedding, taking advantage of the dark.
Balach Lehri, a member of the administration committee, told BBC that batteries to operate the lights and CCTV camera also ran out due to the power outage for a long time.
The Quetta’s hill known as Jabal-e-Noor, or “Mountain of Light”, has been visited by hundreds of thousands of people since two brothers turned it into a shrine for Islam’s holy book, some copies of which are up to 600 years old.
