PESHAWAR: Pakistan has repatriated a significant number of Afghan nationals, with 1,458 card-holding Afghans returning to Afghanistan through the Torkham border from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
This includes 1,245 individuals who returned voluntarily and 213 who were deported. Additionally, 2,656 undocumented Afghan migrants were deported.
Repatriations were also carried out in other regions, including Islamabad, where 15 card-holding and 92 undocumented Afghans were sent back.
In Punjab, 198 card-holders and 451 undocumented individuals were repatriated; in Azad Kashmir, a total of 195 card-holding Afghan migrants returned; lastly, in Sindh, 44 undocumented Afghans were deported.
Since September 2023, a total of 527,705 undocumented Afghan migrants have been sent back to Afghanistan. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has stated that Afghan refugees will not be forced to leave or thrown on the border.
He emphasized the need for negotiation with Afghanistan and understanding why some individuals have resorted to arms. Gandapur claimed that the KP government has a solution for terrorism and will not send Afghan migrants back without the Afghan government’s consent.
