Over 5,500 cops to be deployed for Champions Trophy in Rawalpindi

Champions Trophy in Rawalpindi

ISLAMABAD: At least 5,800 police personnel will be deployed in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi to ensure security during Champions Trophy matches at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

The security arrangements were discussed during the late-night crucial meeting, chaired by IG Islamabad Police Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, and was attended by senior officials from Islamabad and Punjab police.

As per details, a foolproof security plan has been prepared for the security of the route and stadium through the deployment of special squads.

Punjab Police, Dolphins, and Elite Force personnel will patrol the area around the stadium, and expert snipers will be deployed on rooftops near the venue.

During the meeting, IG Islamabad said that full-scale security measures would be in place for the movement of the cricket teams. The movement routes of the teams would be monitored using drone cameras and smart vehicles.

“Hosting the Champions Trophy in Pakistan was a positive development and assured that all necessary security arrangements had been finalized,” he added.

Rawalpindi will host three important matches — Bangladesh vs New Zealand, Australia vs South Africa, and Pakistan vs Bangladesh — scheduled on February 24, 25, and 27, respectively.
