Pakistan decides not to issue passports to asylum seekers abroad

Updated list of countries allowing visa-free travel for Pakistani passport holders in 2025

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Interior has decided to introduce a new policy regarding the issuance of passports to Pakistani citizens, who are seeking asylum in foreign countries.

The federal interior ministry announced that the authority will not issue passports to those seeking asylum on political and any other grounds.

According to the details, the decision approved by the Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi was decided in the context of national security and safety. The Ministry has issued a directive to all relevant authorities, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to implement this policy.

The letter states that any Pakistani citizen granted asylum in another country will be ineligible for a passport. It further said the passports held by such individuals will be revoked and will not be renewed.
