Pakistan launches first AI-based parliamentary system in NA

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly is set to hold the inaugural ceremony for Pakistan’s first artificial intelligence-based parliamentary system, marking a major milestone in the development of a secure and sovereign AI infrastructure for legislative work.

The initiative has been developed in collaboration between the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication and the National Information Technology Board (NITB), and will be formally inaugurated by the Speaker of the National Assembly along with Federal Minister for IT Shaza Fatima Khawaja. Officials said the AI-powered parliamentary system aims to modernize legislative and parliamentary processes by making them faster, more efficient, and aligned with contemporary digital requirements. The system will offer features such as bill summarization, drafting of parliamentary questions, smart document search, speech assistance, and intelligent meeting management tools.

It also includes an AI-based conversational chatbot, along with automated retrieval of legal clauses, articles, laws, and references to support parliamentary work. Authorities stated that parliamentary officers will be able to review bills within minutes, while AI-generated legislative summaries will be available in both Urdu and English. The system will also convert lengthy parliamentary documents into concise and structured formats. Officials added that the smart meeting management feature will further enhance efficiency, while the overall system is expected to improve transparency, speed, and effectiveness in the lawmaking process.
