WASHINGTON: Pakistan elected as Vice-Chair of UN Security Council Counter-Terrorism Committee for 2025, here on Wednesday.
According to media reports, Pakistan has been elected as the Vice-Chair of the UN Security Council Counter-Terrorism Committee (CTC) for 2025.
The committee monitors and guides international efforts to combat terrorism.
In addition, Pakistan has assumed the chairmanship of the UNSC’s 1988 Sanctions Committee, which oversees sanctions against the Taliban.
The committee implements measures such as asset freezes, travel bans and arms embargoes on Taliban-affiliated individuals and entities that pose a threat to peace and security in Afghanistan.
Pakistan will also co-chair two informal working groups – one on documentary and procedural matters and the other on general sanctions matters.
