LAHORE: In a ground move, Pakistan Railways announced a reduction in train fares on Eid-ul-Adha. Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi announced a 20 percent discount on fares during the three days of Eid-ul-Adha.
Pakistan Railways also ran five special trains on account of Eid. As per the information, the initial special train from Karachi Cantonment Railway Station to Lahore left at 1:00 pm on June 2. The second special train had departed Quetta for Peshawar at 10:00 am on June 3.
On the same date, the third special train left Lahore for Karachi at 5:00 pm, whereas the fourth special train from Karachi Cantonment left for Rawalpindi at 7:30 pm.
The fifth and last Eid Special Train left Karachi Cantonment for Lahore at 7:30 pm on June 4. Instructions have been sent to all Superintendent of Police (SP) Railways to increase security in trains as well as stations to prevent any untoward incident during Eid-ul-Azha days.
At the instruction of Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi, the department had ordered all SPs of Railways to depute adequate force at entry and exit points of all railway stations and strict vigil to be maintained of suspected persons, a Ministry official informed APP.
Pakistan Railways Police Commando Force would be deployed at vulnerable installations and in trains, whereas bomb disposal personnel would also be on standby for the search of passengers and baggage at railway stations.
“The SPs Railways ordered to carry out a thorough check and search of unoccupied rakes before the trains arriving on the platforms for departure for their destinations,” said the official.
All the SPs Railways would also be asked to stay present during Eid holidays and check trains, stations, and escorting staff randomly, the official informed.
The official added that the number of travelers was day by day on a rise at railway stations and trains before Eid.
