Pakistan Railway earns Rs 83 billions in 11 months

Pakistan railway announces special discounts for Eid-ul-Adha

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Railways has generated a whopping revenue of Rs 83 billion in the last 11 months, according to the railway officials.

The railway has generated an increase of over Rs 6 billion compared to last year, as per the statement by the officials.

Passenger trains (Rs42 billion) has contributed the largest amount to the total revenue generated, while freight trains generated Rs29 billion. Rs 12 billion were earned through other sources, the official said.

The Karachi Division led with Rs13 billion from passenger trains and Rs25 billion from freight trains, according to the authorities, who broke it down.

With Rs 10 billion in income from passenger trains and Rs 0.75 billion from freight trains, Lahore Division came in second. The passenger sector brought in almost Rs4 billion for the Rawalpindi and Multan Divisions, respectively.

Compared to the same period last year, when it made about Rs 77 billion, the Pakistan Railways saw an improvement.

Earlier, the Ministry of Railways announced five special trains for citizen for the Eid-ul-Adha to facilitate them reaching their homes during vacations.

According to Pakistan Railways, some of these trains would employ new coaches from workshops, while others will make use of existing Eid special trains. The idea is to make travel easier and safer for everyone during Eid al-Adha.

Aside from the five special trains, Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi announced additional steps to make railway stations more modern, accessible, and user-friendly.
