ISLAMABAD: The federal government of Pakistan has abolished 17,101 posts from the Ministry of Railways under the rightsizing policy to reduce government expenditure.
According to the Ministry of Finance, a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Rightsizing was held on Monday under the chairmanship of Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb.
The meeting reviewed the progress of rightsizing in various ministries and divisions. The Establishment Division informed in a briefing that 29 ministries and statutory bodies have confirmed the cancellation of 11,877 posts, while 4,660 “dying” posts have also been confirmed.
The Finance Minister appreciated the implementation of the decisions of the committee and the efforts of the concerned ministries and departments. During the meeting, officials of the Ministry of Railways gave a detailed overview of their rightsizing initiatives and informed that 17,101 posts out of 95,859 posts in the ministry have already been abolished, while the process of abolishing another 5,695 posts is currently underway.
Railway officials also informed that there are plans to abolish another 15,000 posts in the future. The meeting emphasized the importance of improving operational efficiency and better utilization of resources, highlighting the need to modernize Pakistan Railways and make its operations more efficient and effective.
