ISLAMABAD: The National Emergency Operations Centre of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a forecast for increased rainfall across Pakistan starting today.
A press release indicates that moderate to heavy rain is expected in the catchment areas of the Ravi, Chenab, and Jhelum rivers, as well as in southern Balochistan and central and southern Sindh.
Moreover, the NDMA warns that these intense rains could lead to flooding in urban areas and heightened water flow in streams and rivers. Affected regions include Murree, Galiyat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Chitral, Gilgit-Baltistan, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Nowshera, Swabi, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, northeastern Punjab, DG Khan Division, Kalat, Khuzdar, Barkhan, Lasbela, and the hilly streams and torrents of Kashmir.
The NDMA has urged authorities and the public to take precautions against flooding and landslides, instructing relevant departments to alert Emergency Response Teams and mobilize resources for prompt response.
Tourists are advised to avoid traveling to these areas during the forecasted period.
Additionally, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted light rain and drizzle in Karachi over the next 24 hours.
The city will see temperatures ranging from 27.5°C to 32°C, with current humidity at 89% and westward winds at 10 km/h. Another monsoon spell is expected to affect Karachi from August 16.
In Sindh, districts such as Thatta, Sujawal, and Badin are likely to experience rain in the coming days, with temperatures between 32°C and 34°C and humidity levels between 60% and 70%.
Thatta will see light rain and partly cloudy conditions, while Sujawal and Badin are expected to have similar weather.
