PIA resumes London flight operations after 6 years

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan International Airlines’ (PIA) London air operations were resumed after 6 years, as its first flight, PK 785, departed Islamabad for London with 325 passengers.

The PIA flight was bid farewell by Secretary Defense Lt. Gen. (retd) Muhammad Ali and British High Commissioner Jane Marriott.

A simple but dignified ceremony was held at Islamabad Airport before the flight’s departure, in which PIA Consortium Chairman Arif Habib and top aviation officials attended.

A cake was also cut at the inaugural flight ceremony, and a 660 cc car was also drawn in the name of a lucky passenger through a draw, while other passengers were also presented with gifts.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Secretary of Defense said that this flight will further strengthen the ties between the two countries and people.

The Chief Executive Officer of PIA presented commemorative shields to the guests of the ceremony. PIA is also starting a weekly flight from Lahore to London from March 30.

British High Commissioner Jane Marriott congratulated PIA on the London operation.

PIA will initially operate 4 weekly flights between Pakistan and London, of which 3 will operate to Islamabad and 1 to Lahore.
